Carter has read everything Geoff Johns has published over the last couple of years.
Carter loves the Blue Lanterns. He loves that they stand for Hope.
Carter stood up in front of ~400 people at the Emerald City Comic Con Green Lantern Panel, dressed as a Blue Lantern and asked Geoff Johns an intricate, well thought out plot question. Geoff answered the question like he was talking to a adult, he didn’t speak down to the 12 year old kid in tights and a mask.
After the panel Carter walked up to Johns and told him how much he loves all of Geoff’s books. Geoff thanked him and told Carter his question was great.
I piped in and let Geoff know that I have been a Marvel fan since childhood and Carter’s love of DC is causing some friction. Geoff smiled, pulled a big Metal Green Lantern ring off his finger, looked down at Carter and said “Welcome to the Corp!” Geoff Johns gave Carter his own Green Lantern ring!
Have you ever met someone you really looked up to and found out he is super cool? Carter has.
The Swedish Legal System is 3 guys. I’m one of those 3 guys. I play rhythm guitar. I rock the long hair and handlebar mustache look. Up until this week The Swedish Legal System purely rocked covers. I am happy to announce that The Swedish Legal System decided you, the consumer, were ready for a new original song.
The Swedish Legal System was back in the studio over this week cranking out another pop gem. This time we set our sights on the dance genre, taking a dance floor staple and putting the SLS stamp on it.
I took the day off and went to the park with Carter and Claire today. I took a few picture of the kids that are ok. This is probably not as dangerous as it looks.
Watching Carter smile on a swing reminds me how big he is getting. He is going to be 12 next month and I don’t know how long scenes like this will last. Carter is growing up and I am torn between enjoying watching him grow and missing the little boy. Mostly I miss the little boy.
I finally got around to framing a original page from CHEW #2 today. I bought this from Rob Guillory at San Diego Comic Con. I had it matted with my issue of the comic it is in. I hate that getting something framed costs as much as the art you put in it sometimes, but I guess it did turn out pretty good.
Wednesday: Eins, Zwei, DIE!!! I went to a Seattle International Film Festival screening of Dead Snow. Holy Damn. Snow. Zombies. Nazi’s. Nazi Zombies in the snow! Dead Snow is a Norwegian zombie movie and it is just insane. Over the top fun. Most films involving the Nazi’s tend be real downers. This Nazi film will not harsh your mellow at all. Rating: B
Thursday: Carter and I went to see The Brothers Bloom. This movie was directed by Rian Johnson and stars starring Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody, Rachel Weisz, and Rinko Kikuchi. I really loved this movie, it has some amazing cinematography and dialog. The Brothers Bloom was shot on a budget of $20 million, which is relatively small (tiny?) compared to a lot of Hollywood productions. Johnson really makes the most of his budget, the location pieces in Montenegro looked great. Comparisons to Wes Anderson have been thrown around a lot and perhaps not unfairly. I would say however that if you like Anderson’s quirky humor and quick dialog The Brothers Bloom is for you. I am definitely predisposed to liking this type of low budget caper film. If the movie had any faults at all it would be that final act seemed to go on a bit longer than it could (should?) have. That being said, please go see this movie! Pixar has enough money and UP raked in $70 million over the last 3 days, help Rian make another movie, please! Rating: B+
The first 7 minutes of The Brothers Bloom are on Hulu! Check It!
Saturday: Pixar’s UP at the Pacific Place Theater. Everyone says that Pixar is amazing, but damn… Those guys are Amazing. I really loved Wall-E. The fact that they could tell such a great story for the 1st half of the movie with no words was incredible, but I really think UP was better. Maybe their best movie yet. The movie is just a sweet warm-hearted story of an old man on a journey to fulfill a dream that had sort of slipped away. Plus there are talking dogs, who doesn’t love talking dogs? We saw a Digital 3D projection and it looked really good, animation seems lend itself to 3D very naturally. Only down side, no Nazi Zombies. Rating: A
Sunday: We decided to rent canoes on Lake Washington. We have done this a few times in the past, but this time both Carter and Claire are big enough to really enjoy it. We took plenty of bread to feed the ducks and geese. We ended with dozens of baby geese following us around Union Bay. Super Cute. While we were out there we also found a geocache hidden on a little island in Union Bay, Duck Island!
I found a Polaroid Land Camera yesterday at a Garage Sale down the street. Ten bucks and it is in excellent shape, with the case, manual and flash. These things were ~$130 in the 1950’s… How crazy is that? I guess it is pretty comparable, price wise, to a new Canon 5D MK II for $2700, but damn… Now the huge problem is film… The 800 Land Camera used roll film which hasn’t been manufactured for YEARS… I really want to try this thing out, but think it might require some real McGuyver shit from me to get film loaded. I found a couple sites on the web were people have done conversions to sheet film for these. While that sounds like a pretty excellent MAKE style weekend project, i’m just not sure i’m up for it…
