Team Ride And Glide at Madison Elementary School

Filed under: Flickr — edpete @ 5:18 pm

Carter’s school had a BMX team come and put on a show for the kids today.  The guys from Ride and Glide were cool.  I took a couple of photos.  Dig.

This is probably not as dangerous as it looks – A day at the park.

I took the day off and went to the park with Carter and Claire today.    I took a few picture of the kids that are ok.

Watching Carter smile on a swing reminds me how big he is getting.  He is going to be 12 next month and I don’t know how long scenes like this will last.  Carter is growing up and I am torn between enjoying watching him grow and missing the little boy.    Mostly I miss the little boy.

Halloween Party – 2009

Filed under: Flickr, halloween, party — edpete @ 12:00 pm

The Peterson’s had a Halloween party last night for the first time in 4 years or so.  It turned into a pretty solid shindig / dance party / howdown type affair.   Tons of super hero costumes; Captain America, Red Skull, Sharon Carter (Agent of Shield), Blue Lantern, Green Latern, Poison Ivy, Joker, Riddler, Batgirl, Two Face, etc etc etc…

There was also a Dirty Sanchez, McGruber, and Dick in a Box…

The garage turned into Vickie Peterson’s West Side Dance Party complete with Disco Ball and everything…

Dead Soldiers: 15 bottles of red, several cases of beer, a Gallon of Vodka, a Gallon of Rum…  I think we are going to be finding empties for a week…

Bunny. Ears.

Dirty Sanchez showed up the party.

Future of the Left – …and you will know us by the Trail of Dead – At Neumo’s

Filed under: Flickr, rock — edpete @ 1:59 am

Went to a big rock show tonight, Future of the Left and …and you will know us by the Trail of Dead at Neumo’s on Capitol Hill.   I have wanted to Trail of Dead for quite a while now and have just never quite made it.  I don’t know why, they come to town, I say “I should go see those guys” and then I don’t go see those guys.   This time when they came to town they brought Future of the Left and I knew I had to go.

Future of the Left is fronted by Andy “Falco” Falkous who was previously in McLusky – a band I loved and saw a couple of times at the Crocodile in Seattle.  The last time McLusky played Seattle they were wrapping up a long tour and had just played a gig in Arizona.  While in Arizona all of their gear was stolen so they were playing borrowed gear for the Croc show.  Not a good way to wrap up a long tour of the states.  The band seemed pretty angry about the whole ordeal.  About 2 months later they were no longer a band…  I blame Arizona.

The first time Future of the Left came to Seattle I was at the San Diego Comic Con…  I was determined to see them the next time they came to town, and only had to wait about 3 months.    One of my favorite things about seeing shows at venues like Neumo’s or The Crocodile in Seattle is that at the end of the night the band is often working their own merch table and that was the case with Future of the Left.  I got to talk to Andy Falkous for a few minutes, told him I had really enjoyed seeing McLusky and was glad I got to see him this time around.  He was super gracious, chatted with me about his Arizona adventure a bit and I bought a t-shirt from him.

Oh, and Trail of Dead were really good too.  Wall of noise.  2 Drummers.   One of the drummers had Marvel Thor and Vision bobble heads on his drum kit.

Zombies attack the Seattle Center! Seattle Zombie Walk – 10/10/09

Filed under: Flickr, cosplay, vegan, zombies — edpete @ 5:58 am

From Wikipedia:

A zombie walk (also known as a zombie mob, zombie march, zombie horde, zombie lurch, zombie shamble, zombie shuffle or zombie pub crawl) is an organized public gathering of people who dress up in zombie costumes. Usually taking place in an urban centre, the participants make their way around the city streets and through shopping malls in a somewhat orderly fashion and often limping their way towards a local cemetery or other public space (a series of taverns in the case of a zombie pub crawl).

So, Carter, Tim and I went to the Seattle Zombie Walk at the Seattle Center (Home of the Space Needle) yesterday.  We had an amazing time…  Not sure what the count of zombies turned out to be, maybe ~300?   Before the walk Carter and I went to John Kieltyka’s apartment downtown and he shot some pictures of us in his photo studio.

This was our 2nd Zombie walk and we recognized quite a few undead from our previous walk last year.  Once downtown we met up with Brent and his wife – Made up like freshly turn reporters…  After shambling through the Seattle Center and Lower Queen Anne for a couple hours we broke off and had dinner at The Bamboo Garden – Awesome Vegan Chinese food.  We definitely got a few looks in the restaurant as we sat to eat covered in fake blood and gaping wounds.

Good Times.

Jones Family Fortune at the Skylark in West Seattle

Filed under: Flickr, photography, rock — edpete @ 1:24 am

I went to see my buddy Ron’s band play at the Skylark in West Seattle tonight.   I went in to this show totally cold.  I hadn’t heard any Jones Family Fortune before seeing them live tonight.   I was really impressed by this them.  They are all excellent musicians, and the music is a sort of rock / americana / indie thing.  They are a 5 piece with a keyboard player who also adds a 3rd guitar into the mix on a few songs.  The band has a nice big sound that was perfect in the Skylark, which is a fairly small bar.

Tired now.  Sleep.

Geoff Johns is pretty cool.

Filed under: Comics, Flickr, twitter — edpete @ 11:45 pm

Tonight I sent Geoff Johns, the writer of Green Lantern, a link to a picture of Carter at our local comic shop.   Carter has been reading of ton of comics by Geoff recently.  Geoff actually replied to the tweet, saying “Carter Rocks” and he posted the link.  The photo then got about 500 hits in an hour.

Johns has thousands of followers on twitter and he will still reply to individual people, that sort of thing goes a long way toward making fans appreciate them even more.    I am that much more willing to buy Carter a couple more of those Geoff Johns books he has been eyeing.  This was actually the second time Geoff replied to me, and I have sent him a total of 2 messages on twitter.  Nice.

The downside of all of this is that Carter leaned over to me tonight and said, “Dad, I think I’m turning into a DC guy…”  Damn it.  Where did I go wrong…  He did give the concession that he still loves Matt Fractions Invincible Iron Man run.  But, Damn.

Carter loves Green Lantern Comics

Ed and Claire – Dancing Clocks and Battling B-Boys!

I really like spending time one-on-one with Carter and Claire.   Family time is great, but the kids compete for attention and with them 5 years apart in age it can be hard for them to find common ground.

Yesterday Claire and I went out on a little father daughter date.   First up, we attended Lullaby Moon in Magnuson Park.  Amazing.  There are so many things that happen in Seattle that we just don’t find out about until it is so late.  I found out about this through a link on the Seattle Flickr page.   Lullaby Moon is a sort of outdoor interactive theater event and it felt custom made for Claire.  Claire wore a white and gold princess gown the grandma Dot gave her a year or so ago.  I lost count of the number of people who came up and told her how beautiful she looked.  We got to go on a Carriage ride in a massive down bed while a mooner told us bedtime stories.  Beautiful.

Claire got hungry before the event was over, so we went to her favorite restaurant for dinner.  Blue C Sushi.  She loves some conveyor belt sushi.  After we filled up on Sushi and Candy (from the boutique candy store next door) we went off to see some B-Boys battle at The Takeover.    Claire was not as into the Hip-Hop break dancing competition, and it was getting late so I took a few photos and we left.  In the 15 minutes we were at this event I saw some pretty amazing dancing.

Overall it was a great father / daughter date night.

Comic Book Pull List 8/12/09

Filed under: Comics, Flickr, nerd!!! — edpete @ 8:29 pm

Pretty big day at the comic book store (Arcane Comics) this week.   9 monthlies and a trade paperback.  Marvel is taking in most of the money this week, as usual.   I also went to a Ed Brubaker signing at Barnes & Noble yesterday and picked up the new Captain America hardcover.    I am also starting to go back and dig into Matt Fraction’s Uncanny X-Men run.  I am just old enough to not really give a shit about the  X-Men, but Fraction has consistently brought the good writing (Casanova, Immortal Iron Fist, Iron Man) so I am giving it a shot.

Carter and I mentioned that we have both covers of the Dethklok vs The Goon comic signed by Eric Powell, to Jeremy, the super cool guy that runs the West Seattle Arcane store.  He didn’t realize that there was an alternate cover and wished he had got one.   Jeremy is super nice.  Jeremy knows our names.  Jeremy talks to us, tells us what’s good, what to avoid, just a cool guy.   Carter, Claire and I ran back up to Arcane and gave him our signed alternate Dethklok book.  He said it made his day.  Cool.

I am probably most interested in the Ultimate Avengers by Mark Millar, with Carlos Pacheco Pencils and Manny Miki inks this week.   The first book I will hit is going to be The Walking Dead though.  That book is just consistently good, icky, sick shit.  I love it.  FYI – AMC is going to be adapting it for TV, AMC brought the Mad Men, so I have high hopes.

Carter is really into the Green Lantern stuff right now, he has started with the beginning trades from the Geoff Johns run and has been working forward.  Carter is all about the Blackest Night.  No Tiny Titans for Claire this week.  Sad.

Brubaker at Barnes and Noble.  Ed told Carter and I a story about how he signed so many books at a recent convention he pulled a muscle in his chest.  Apparently Captain America #25 sold somewhere around 400,000 copies.  Ed is pretty sure he has signed them all.   Yeah, my Cap #25 is signed.  Thanks Ed.
