The Swedish Legal System seem to have the indy rock vibe thing going with GBTUSA.
If Lee Greenwood were dead he would be rolling in his grave.

I don’t know much about Charotte Gainsbourg (I know she mutilated Willem Defoe’s genitals) but when she makes an album and video with Beck weird shit happens.

Ed, Carter, T-Bag and KevDan went to the big Shellac of North America show at the Vera Project last night. It was an amazing show (the 3rd time i’ve seen them) as usual.
The song Canada has a line, “Imagine there was a time your cigar was ironic”… After they played this song Steve Albini explained how this line came to him. He was reading Rolling Stone article about a certain (sort of) un-named music exec from Seattle getting massage on his very expensive desk. The exec seemed to think this was super ironic; “Ha, I’m grunge and getting a massage”. Steve then proceeded to explain how very very un-ironic this (sort of) un-named exec was being. You can read all about this behavior – here.
Carter liked Shellac a lot, and he is a bit taken by the song Prayer To God, for obvious and blasphemous reasons. After their shows Steve Albini, Todd Trainer and Bob Weston all sit and stage and sell t-shirts and spend time chatting with the fans. It’s not uncommon for small bands in local clubs to be manning the booth at the end of a show, but you know… This is Steve Albini! Carter went up and bought a t-shirt, and I asked if I could get a picture. Bob reached down, gave Carter his hand and pulled him up on stage. They all introduced themselves and asked Carter his name. They seemed as glad to have a kid at the show as the kid was to be at the show (dad was pretty happy too).
Part of the conversation with Steve as we were getting ready to leave;
Steve: “So, Carter, how long have you been a kid?”
Carter: “About 11 years.”
Steve: “Awesome! High Five!”
Carter and Steve Albini then smiled and high fived. I’m smiling as I type this.
Oh, and the opening band Arcwelder was great, one thing that I really enjoyed about them was that my eyes were constantly drawn to the bass player, Rob Graber. His playing was just rock solid all night, and he has some super interesting bass lines.
Prayer To God – Kill ‘em.
Todd is killing the kit in this video…

Steve Albini, Todd Trainer, Carter, Bob Weston – Some very cool guys. Another (better) Shot – Here.

Kevdan – looking up to Todd Trainer!

Before the show, Carter and Tim needed to put some Dick’s Burgers in their mouth holes. Ed avoids Dick’s like the Plague.

This clip is making the rounds (boingboing, etc)… but it is pretty amazing. You really need to watch it until the very end. Awesome. It is hard to believe he can even lift that guitar.

Vickie loves her Christmas music. Me? Not so much. I do like Chiptune music though. This morning I found this link to a full album of Chiptune Christmas songs. Everyone Wins!
Some favorites so far: O Come, All Ye Vampires, Super Jingle Bros and Have Yourself a Final Little Fantasy.
Oh yeah, and it’s Free-Dollars! Donate a couple bucks to the Doc though, it will help the whole Donation style music distribution model live on.
Dig It!
Via Boing Boing, of Course.

I am an absolute sucker for The Mountain Goats. I was out surfing the internets waves tonight and realized that they are going to be in Seattle on Monday. Wanna go? Anyone? Anyone? I have seen them several times. The shows are always great. Come on lets go!
Haven’t heard The Mountain Goats? Well, John is jumping on giving stuff away for free bandwagon. You can get’s there new EP The Satanic Messiah for free dollars.
Steps to get free music:
Step 5 is totally up to you. The music is yours either way. Free. But you know. You want to support small artists. Give him a dollar. Give him ten. I sure he will appreciate anything. You will feel better. I did.
Carter and I went to a free Midnight show at Easy Street Records a couple of years ago. John Darneille signed a poster for Carter. He also drew a pentagram and put 666 on it. It is hanger over Carters bed.
this was how cyrus got sent to the school
where they told him he’d never be famous.
and this was why jeff, in the letters he’d write to his friend,
helped develop a plan to get even.
when you punish a person for dreaming his dream,
don’t expect him to thank or forgive you.
the best ever death metal band out of denton
will in time both outpace and outlive you.
hail satan!
hail satan tonight!
hail satan!
hail hail!
Oh, and let me know if you want to go to a concert Monday night. I will be there.

Polvo. Indie Noise Rock. Albums on Merge and Touch And Go. From Chaple Hill. These boys were Math Rock before there was Math Rock – Wikipedia say’s so. Miles and Miles of indie cred.
I saw Polvo play in the early 90’s at some tiny WSU hole. It was a pretty amazing show – Crazy Crazy Noise. How do they make the guitars do that?
Anyway, they are on a reunion tour. They are playing Neumo’s Friday. I’m thinking if a bomb went off while they were playing all you would find is a buncha horn-rimmed glasses and ironic t-shirts.
Go Watch ‘em.

I actually got mails from Peter Berkman (Anamanaguchi) as well as Paris Treantafeles (who did the cool visuals displays), from my previous post and flickr pics. So I thought I would put up a few seconds of one of their songs. The battery was dying on my crappy little flip video cam, but you get the point.
Enjoy.

I have been cleaning out the garage for the last couple of days. I realized that i have 3 recievers, several CD players, Tons of Speakers, etc etc etc… I hooked up a AdCom power amp, a Carver preamp, a sony CD player and some Polk Audio speakers. I still had a ton of other stuff so I asked Carter if he wanted a stereo for his room, and he say’s to me… Get this, he says… “What’s a stereo?”
So, it’s not that we don’t listen to music. We listen to music constantly. We have about 800 cd’s ripped onto the computer, we have an Ipod, a Zune, a Creative Zen, and a bunch older mp3 players. Every computer in the house is networked, so the media is everywhere. When we buy a new CD, we pop it into the computer and rip it. The cd then goes into storage.
I realized Carter has never seen a record player or a typewriter or a dictionary or encyclopedia in book form. But, damn, he hasn’t seen a Stereo. No kidding. How old are you feeling?
