Flickr Photo Stats After Comic Con

Filed under: comic-con, cosplay, denial, photography — edpete @ 7:52 pm

stats

Stats page for my flickr account…  Note, there is a bit of a spike right after Comic Con.  My daily views hover around 50 – 100 a day, usually.  Comic Con related queries shot that number up to ~3600…  Funny.    This picture accounted for 651 views…  It is now the most viewed picture I have ever posted.  The best picture?  Hmmm…  Maybe not.

I have posted pictures after each of the cons I have gone to and getting bumps is pretty common.  Jumping to 3600 views is not super common.

Here are my Con Sets…

Signed Pass to see The Rocker starring Rainn "The Office" Wilson

Filed under: comic-con, movies, nerd!!!, tv — edpete @ 2:08 am

Carter and I got passes to see The Rocker today.  They were handing them out after a panel of writers from “The Office” at Comic Con.  Rainn Wilson, the star, was at the movie.  After the Q&A with Rainn, Carter got his autograph.  During the Q&A I asked dorkie question about how he liked having a leading role vs being part of an ensemble…  I think the answer was he would like to do more lead roles but he only sees scripts after Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, Jack Black and Ben Stiller all pass on the project.
As we were leaving Rainn was actually interviewing people as they were walking out of the theater for a commercial promoting the movie.  Carter and I got interviewed by him, but he asked a few questions about his Carters face, he was covered in Zombie makeup.  So, you know, if they are targeting the Zombie crowd for The Rocker Carter and I might be on TV with Dwight Shrute.  Awesome.

Commute: Microsoft’s Redmond Campus to Downtown Seattle

Filed under: The Suck, travel, video — edpete @ 10:55 am

This is what the commute from Microsoft to Downtown Seattle looks like.  I have been commuting from West Seattle to Microsoft in Redmond for nearly 10 years.  520 has an HOV lane which requires 3 people, we had 4 in the car, so our commute was MUCH faster than if we were a single occupancy vehicle.
The video is time lapsed, 1 frame every 2 seconds.  This was about a 35 minute commute.  John grabbed the camera in downtown, Joe and I still had to drive to West Seattle.

System Of A Down is the worst band in the world.

Filed under: The Suck, aholes, random — edpete @ 4:48 pm

Really.  System Of A Down, horrible.  Dumb.  I have a very unflattering picture in my head of this bands fans as well.  The music is condensed ADHD.  Garbage.

On the other hand JMC is always a bringer of the funny links.  I like the funny links.  This music sucks, but I do enjoy these 2 guys.

Thomas Disch 1940 – 2008

Filed under: Books, bummer — edpete @ 11:32 pm

I read my first Thomas Disch novel The Genocides this year, and really enjoyed it, noting that it held up pretty well for a book published in 1965.  Another one of his books, Camp Concentration has been on one of my to read lists for a while.  Disch was apparently in danger of being evicted from his rent controlled apartment in NYC and Disch’s partner of several years had died a few years ago.

On the 4th of July he committed suicide in his rent controlled apartment.  Sucks.  Sucks that people get that down.  Sucks that a guy writes novel after novel, books of poetry, magazine articles.  Sucks that he had won a Hugo Award 1999, and he had two other Hugo nominations.  He had nine Nebula Award nominations, won the John W. Campbell Memorial Award, a Rhysling Award, and two Seiun Awards, among others.  Yet he couldn’t pay rent.  Sucks.

Sucks that I am probably going to go buy a Disch book and it isn’t going to help with that rent.

Disch wrote his own memorial on his livejournal blog

A Memorial Service
Who will rejoice at my death
as I am cheered now by the prospect
of Cheney’s? Some thousands?
It would be a vanity to suppose so.
A wizened few who keep their bad reviews
bundled in their spleens.
And my landlord who’ll be spared the cost
of further eviction proceedings: he’ll rejoice.
Some five or six elderly writers
whose names always appear alongside mine
will be pleased to have outlasted me.
But what the great possess–
the Cheneys, the Caesars, the Yorks—-
that lesser men lack are enemies
whose malice has become coextensive
with their crooked grins. I’ve not
encountered many such for a few years now,
but then I don’t get about that much.
Even my worst enemies will not openly exult.
They’ll think twice and come up with some
pious, backhanded compliment
such as how much their dogs always liked me.
But no one will feel a triumphant thrill
at the thought that what I represent
has been wiped out of existence.
A nobody like me can’t hope to see
jeering crowds dance round his effigy.

Fireworks in Seattle – 4th of July

Filed under: Flickr, holiday, photography — edpete @ 10:32 am

For the past few years we have gone over to the neighbors house and watched some back alley fireworks. This year I took some pictures. Having a SLR with a bunch of manual settings makes for interesting shots.

I posted a bunch on my flickr account. Check It!

Rocket!  This one has a pretty cool ghost image of our neighbor overseeing the lighting of a rocket.  If you look close the tracer on the left hand side of the image is the punk coming into the frame.
