A solid mix of Crap and Gold… Looking over my 2008 list, I am thinking that for 2009 I will read a Pulitzer or Nobel at least every other book. The McCarthy books have certainly received their share of accolades and To Kill a Mockingbird won a Pulitzer…
A couple of the surprising gems in the below list are Little Brother and The Graveyard Book. Both of these are written for the Young Adult crowd and are excellent. Maybe awards aren’t the only thing to look at after all. I also love Charlie Huston so don’t imagine I will give him up in the new year.
I wanted to get through 24 books this year. I hit 23. I am working on One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez for my first book of 2009… Starting off with a book that won the Nobel…

There is certainly a lot of crap in the below list. I guess my defense would be that all but 3 of those movies were seen with a 6 or 10 year old (you can guess which – you might be surprised). There are a few movies that stand out; The Dark Knight, Let The Right One In, WALL-E. But, man, looking at the below list does make me cringe a bit. There are also a fair number of movies I would still like to see that are currently in Theaters; Frost / Nixon, Milk, Gran Torino…
My list of movies I watched on DVD or streamed via netflix stacks up much better… I may compile that list as well…

When people stop by John’s apartment, he takes them to his studio and takes a portrait. John just posted the photos on Flickr this week. I think this is a pretty cool photo of me. There was a white box behind me and a couple of flashes in front to give the photo that even lighting effect. There about 100 photos all with the same lighting technique… Check it out, it is a very cool set.
Here is a link to his whole set of White Portraits.

Vickie loves her Christmas music. Me? Not so much. I do like Chiptune music though. This morning I found this link to a full album of Chiptune Christmas songs. Everyone Wins!
Some favorites so far: O Come, All Ye Vampires, Super Jingle Bros and Have Yourself a Final Little Fantasy.
Oh yeah, and it’s Free-Dollars! Donate a couple bucks to the Doc though, it will help the whole Donation style music distribution model live on.

Snow just doesn’t really happen in Seattle. The streets have been closed for about a week around our house.

We got about 1/2 an inch of snow in Seattle last night. The city is at a stand still, the hill our house is on is iced over and closed.
Waffle and Ox aren’t real sure what to think.

Vickie and I went to a White Trash Christmas party last night. Nothing like getting all dressed up for a night on the town with a bunch of friends from your kids school. There was more Rainer, Olympia and Coors Light than I have seen since college. Tunes by RATT, Motley Crew, Poison, White Snake… The whole nine… 40 Something’s shot-gunning beer after beer… A table loaded with Spam, twinkies, pickled pigs feet and KFC.
My Favorite Quote from the evening:
Ed – “I know this song… Who is this???”
Random Dude Walking By – “Fuck, Man! Come On!!! That’s Fucking DIO!!! He kicks Ass!!!”
I really need to bone up on my early 80’s Butt Rock…
Fun Times.
