Carter Got A New Lightsaber – Our first Adobe After Effects

Filed under: after effects, nerd!!!, video, youtube — edpete @ 2:58 pm

Carter and I completed our first little special effects test with Adobe After Effects this morning.  It took us about 3 hours to get this 4 second clip done.  I think we will get a little faster with some practice.  What do you think?  Leave some comments on his account…

Imagine there was a time your cigar was ironic – Shellac At The Vera Project

Filed under: Music, rock — edpete @ 7:52 pm

Ed, Carter, T-Bag and KevDan went to the big Shellac of North America show at the Vera Project last night.   It was an amazing show (the 3rd time i’ve seen them) as usual.

The song Canada has a line, “Imagine there was a time your cigar was ironic”…  After they played this song Steve Albini explained how this line came to him.  He was reading Rolling Stone article about a certain (sort of) un-named music exec from Seattle getting massage on his very expensive desk.  The exec seemed to think this was super ironic; “Ha, I’m grunge and getting a massage”.  Steve then proceeded to explain how very very un-ironic this (sort of) un-named exec was being.  You can read all about this behavior – here.

Carter liked Shellac a lot, and he is a bit taken by the song Prayer To God, for obvious and blasphemous reasons.  After their shows Steve Albini, Todd Trainer and Bob Weston all sit and stage and sell t-shirts and spend time chatting with the fans.  It’s not uncommon for small bands in local clubs to be manning the booth at the end of a show, but you know…  This is Steve Albini!  Carter went up and bought a t-shirt, and I asked if I could get a picture.  Bob reached down, gave Carter his hand and pulled him up on stage.  They all introduced themselves and asked Carter his name.  They seemed as glad to have a kid at the show as the kid was to be at the show (dad was pretty happy too).

Part of the conversation with Steve as we were getting ready to leave;

Steve: “So, Carter, how long have you been a kid?”

Carter: “About 11 years.”

Steve: “Awesome!  High Five!”

Carter and Steve Albini then smiled and high fived.  I’m smiling as I type this.

Oh, and the opening band Arcwelder was great, one thing that I really enjoyed about them was that my eyes were constantly drawn to the bass player, Rob Graber.   His playing was just rock solid all night, and he has some super interesting bass lines.

Carter And Tim.  Dicks.
Before the show, Carter and Tim needed to put some Dick’s Burgers in their mouth holes.  Ed avoids Dick’s like the Plague.
